Security Cameras

Make sure every camera alert gets delivered

Motion captures, tamper warnings and offline alerts are only useful if they arrive. DeviceSMTP relays camera and NVR email the moment it matters.

The problem

What goes wrong with security cameras email

Security cameras and NVRs email you precisely when something is wrong: motion in a restricted area, a tampered lens, or a unit that has dropped offline. These are the notifications you can least afford to lose, yet camera email features are famously unreliable and are often set up once and never tested again.

A camera that fails to send a motion snapshot gives you no second chance — the event has already passed by the time you realise the alert never came.

Why conventional SMTP setups fail

The internet moved on — the firmware didn’t

Camera and NVR firmware was rarely designed with modern mail security in mind. Many units only support basic authentication, which Gmail and Microsoft 365 no longer accept, so alert email starts failing silently after a provider update.

Cameras frequently sit on networks where the ISP blocks outbound SMTP ports, and their firmware often negotiates an old TLS version that receiving servers now reject. With no delivery log on the device, a camera can appear healthy while every alert is being dropped.

How DeviceSMTP solves it

One gateway purpose-built for security cameras

A stable relay endpoint

One fixed hostname for every camera and NVR, so alerts keep flowing even as mail providers tighten their rules.

TLS & SSL to match the firmware

Connect older cameras over 465 SSL or 587 STARTTLS — whichever encryption the unit actually supports.

Per-camera credentials & labels

Issue scoped logins such as “Camera — Loading dock” so a single compromised unit can’t expose the whole account.

Delivery logs & bounce monitoring

See every motion and tamper alert that was sent, with its delivery status, so a dropped alert never goes unnoticed.

Example notifications

The kind of mail these devices send

  • Motion and intrusion detection alerts
  • Snapshot or event-clip email with attachments
  • Camera tamper and lens-obstruction warnings
  • Device offline or connection-lost alerts
  • Storage-full and recording-failure notices
  • Scheduled health and status summaries
